Collaborative Work
The Biofiber Butterfly House project seeks to create a protective space for butterflies within the organic farm of Quinta BioKairós Malaca, Azores, Portugal. Embracing the complexity of woven structure, we collaborated in group of four to develop and construct a passive butterfly house using sustainable materials while exploring the generative potential of tectonic assembly and interaction with the environment. Through hands-on experiments and educational components, the initiative protects butterflies and farms and fosters sustainable design exploration and ecological awareness.
We delves into Conteira plant fibers, investigating their potential to yield sustainable bio-plastic materials as alternatives to traditional plastics. Concurrently, the utilization of Cryptomeria, a invasive yet sustainable species in the Azores, aligns with our commitment to environmental responsibility.
I took a leadership role within our group, conceptualizing the meandering circulation design for the basic structure from a users’ perspective. Additionally, I introduced the innovative concept of a rotating wood structure to craft a dynamically curved spatial experience juxtaposed with straight columns. My responsibilities extended to developing iterations, crafting physical models, and producing hand-drawn renderings, all aimed at bringing our visionary ideas to life.
